Shell King Project
Cuming Corporation's New Iberia factory recently completed casting C-THERM pipe insulation for 32,000 feet of flowline for the Shell King project in the Gulf of Mexico. Heriot-Watt University tested the insulation for twenty-year service at a depth of 3,300 feet. It was cast onto 40-foot joints, which were then welded into 160-foot sections. The weld joints were covered with C-THERM insulation collars. Nearby Bayou Pipe Coating provided epoxy pipe coating and welding services. The pipe was laid in late 1999, with production beginning in March 2000.
A Cuming Corporation Service Team also installed pack-in-place syntactic
foam for King's Pipeline End Manifolds (PLEMS). Applied like
an industrial-grade modeling clay, pack-in-place materials provide durable
and reliable long-term thermal insulation for the subsea system's critical
parts.
